A collection curated and designed for Compost Collab 2024, 30 Reasons Why was exhibited amongst other artists and non-artists focused on sustainability, conservation, and preservation.
The work was generated from one of the sustainable practices I’ve adopted in my own life, and where I began my eco-conscious journey, in my closet. I started by curating clothes through local collaborations and my own efforts to find clothes headed to the landfill.
The most important concept for me, as a designer, was the text of the project (both the screen printed slogans and handwritten fact-tags). Information was pulled from my own research on the sustainability of fashion and statistics of the textile industry.
My goal was to mimic the kids of bold advertisement techniques used to promote consumerism and mirror the experience shoppers have while sifting through clothing racks, checking tags for prices and other information, etc.
These interactive and environmental tactics got the audience, or consumers, to engage with the work and participate in the practice of ‘slow fashion’ and sustainability.
